What to Expect (Schedule Details)
Thursday, March 31, 2022
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM Team Registration, All Divisions–Registration Desk
Coaches report to the CAC registration desk to pick up their team registration materials. Food is available for the participants. Teams need to sign up for a time to report to the photography room to have their picture taken by tournament photographers. These photos will be used in the Awards Banquet and may be downloaded for no cost via the CAC gallery at CACpics.com (password: “challenge”).
9:00 AM – 9:45 AM Judges Meeting
The Tournament Director meets with judges and other staff members to discuss the rules and procedures.
10:30 AM – 11:00 AM Orientation, All Divisions
At the start of this activity, the tournament director reviews important information regarding tournament schedules, procedures, expectations, etc. Sponsor representatives are then invited to give a short welcome to the teams. Coaches are expected to have thoroughly reviewed the rules with their team members prior to arrival but some time is allowed at this meeting for teams to ask rule/procedure-related questions.
11:15 PM – 12:15 PM Opening Luncheon
Meals in the Convention Center are restricted to Tournament Attendees only. Attendees must wear their lanyards to be admitted to the meals. Non-registrants may not attend.
12:30 PM – 6:30 PM Competitions: Rounds 1-3
The state is divided into three (3) divisions based on total district enrollment—similar to athletics. The Division 3 teams (the smallest school districts) compete for a berth in Round 5, the semifinals for Division 3. The other teams compete in Round 4. The Division 2 teams (the medium-sized school districts) compete for a berth in Round 6, the semifinals for Division 2. The other teams compete in Round 4. The Division 1 teams (the largest school districts) compete for a berth in Round 7, the semifinals for Division 1. The other teams compete in Round 5.

8:30 AM – 10:00 AM Brunch
Participants get to sleep in a bit. Those Division 1 and 2 teams that do not have to compete until Rounds 6 and 7 have this day to visit the theme parks.
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM Coaches’ Challenge (optional)
Coaches are invited to participate in this activity in which “the tables are turned.”
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Fourth Round Competitions, Divisions 2 & 3
There are two (2) competition rooms—one (1) for Division 2 and one (1) for Division 3. The four teams with the highest scores in each room earn a berth in their respective semifinal rounds. The other teams are eliminated from further competition.
12:30 PM – 2:30 PM Division 3 Semifinals, Consolation Round Division 1 (ROUND 5)
There are four (4) competition rooms—two (2) for Division 1 and two (2) for Division 3.The top two teams from each Division 1 competition earn a berth in the semifinal round—Round 7. The three (3) Division 3 teams with the highest scores in each of the two (2) rooms compete in the Final Championship Round at 9:00 AM on Saturday. The other teams are eliminated from further competition.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Breakfast
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Division 3 Finals and Division 2 Semifinals (ROUND 6)
There are three (3) competition rooms—two (2) for Division 2 and one (1) for Division 3.
The top three teams from each Division 2 competition earn a berth in the final round—Round 7.
The other teams are eliminated from further competition.
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Division 2 Finals and Division I Semifinals (ROUND 7)
There are three (3) competition rooms—two (2) for Division 1 and one (1) for Division 2. The top three teams from each Division 1 competition earn a berth in the final round—Round 8. The other teams are eliminated from further competition.
12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Lunch
Lunch will be available to teams who are competing today and to those teams who are not competing and choose to spend some time in the park before the Awards Ceremony.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Division 1 Finals (ROUND 8)
The six (6) Division 1 teams from Round 7 compete for the State Division 1 Championship.
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Awards Banquet
All teams are recognized at this function and are, therefore, expected to attend. The cost of the dinner is included in the cost of the registration. Non-registrants may purchase tickets.
